FARKAS, Edwin (Ed)
October 22, 1936 - April 12, 2013
At St. Joseph's Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario in his 77th year. He is re-united with his wife Heather Farkas (nee Culm - 2012), and his sister Eileen Elliott (husband Douglas Elliott of Welland, Ontario). Much loved father of Lori Farkas and Elizabeth (Walter) McMaster. Cherished grandfather of Kane McMaster. Ed was born in Welland, Ontario to parents Reverend Charles Farkas (1965) and Elza (nee Mandel - 1985). Ed spent his childhood years with his father in Welland involved in the church and active in the Hungarian community. Although he raised his family in Hamilton, employed by Stelco (Hilton Works) until his retirement, he always considered Welland his home. He would return whenever possible, to attend functions at the churches and Hungarian Hall which meant so much to him, and reconnect with his roots. A skilled photographer from an early age, much of his life, interest and travels were captured on film - from his memorable road trip throughout the Midwest and annual fall excursion to Algonquin Park with the dog (first Goldie, then Rex). He was never without a joke to tell and will be remembered for his intellect, quick wit and unique sense of humour which he maintained until the end. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at the L.G. WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 151 Ottawa St. N. in Hamilton (905-544-1147) on Saturday, April 20, 2013 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. If desired, donations may be made to The Friend's of Algonquin Park. A very special thank you to Bill and Carole Buhay for all their help and support over the past year and during this difficult time. To his friends, including those at 20 Place, for your kind words and prayers. To those who assisted in Dad's care at St. Joseph's Hospital, thank you so much. To the organizers of the Hungarian church and Hall functions, your tireless efforts were always much appreciated.
